WHAT IS THE PURPOSE/ MISSION STATEMENT OF THE LYNDEN COMMUNITY/ SENIOR CENTER?
To provide a place and environment for one to experience great food, friendship and fun! It particularly encourages seniors to continue in a physical and emotionally healthy lifestyle. The programs are designed to meet individual needs, develop inherent potential, promote personal growth and increase independence.

IS MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN ACTIVITIES, MEALS OR EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AT LYNDEN COMMUNITY/ SENIOR CENTER?
Although membership is not required, many become members to show appreciation and to place value on having the resources of the Community/ Senior Center available to them and to others. As a member, one is also entitled to park in the Community Center parking lot when visiting. It also entitles one to a free birthday meal and to sell in the gift shop. All members receive monthly newsletters listing all the senior resources and activities available in the county. It also includes the monthly menu.

HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO PARTICIPATE?
There are no age restrictions, anyone is welcome to participate. We even have Homeschoolers in some of our classes.

WHO IS THE NUTRITIONAL LUNCH PROGRAM FOR?
The nutritional lunch program is federally funded for seniors and is available to anyone 60 or over for an asking donation of $3.00 to $5.50 per meal. Home delivered hot meals are available. For anyone under 60, the cost of a full course hot noon meal is $5.50. Our meals are cooked on site. The community is welcome.

HOW DOES THE CENTER RECEIVE ITS FUNDING?
Membership dues of $18 per year, as well as donations, support the operations. The City of Lynden, Whatcom County Parks and Senior Services also participate in funding. The Community/ Senior Center raises $140,000 of its own budget. All donations are gratefully accepted. We also have an Endowment Fund to ensure our financial future.

HOW DOES ONE SELL THEIR HANDIWORK AND CRAFTS IN THE GIFT SHOP?
Gifts in the gift shop and handmade by and sold by members only. It is a "one of a kind" shop! The Gift Shop is open weekdays 9am to 4pm.

WHAT CLASSES ARE OFFERED AND WHO CAN ATTEND?
Classes are available to anyone in the community. They currently include art, exercise, strength training equipment, clogging, quilt tying and "55 Alive" classes. There are also vocal and instrumental groups, indoor and outdoor games.

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE OPERATIONS OF THE LYNDEN COMMUNITY/ SENIOR CENTER?
The governing source of the Lynden Community/ Senior Center is the Lynden Council on Aging, Inc., comprised of a volunteer nominated board. The Center's Coordinator is Judith VanBrocklin. Alice Fairall is Office Manager, and Mary Chenoweth is Activity and Program Director. We also have a full time cook, part time employees and many volunteers who are the lifeblood of the Center.
